The days of “what you see is what you get” are finally over! When you walk into Kensington, you no longer have to worry about finding your dream sofa in the perfect color and the perfect style—you can just make it yourself. In fact, you can customize just about every aspect of your furniture nowadays.
Revamped from this post from two years ago, here are the five steps you should follow when you’re creating your new stunning sofa:
Don’t think about color first; think about the structure. Do you want a sofa, loveseat, chair, or a sectional? Try to envision what you want the end result to look like before you even start. Not much more goes into picking a sofa, loveseat, or chair, but sectionals can be a little more complicated since there are endless options when it comes to their frame. You can add length, a chaise lounge, or a cuddler piece just to name a few.
Do you want to stick with the current colors of your room or build an entirely new room around your new custom furniture? If you’re looking to save some time and money, picking a general color group that already fits with your current color scheme at home is probably the best way to go. But if you’re really itching to redesign an entire space, make your new custom furniture the centerpiece of the room! Not sure how to go about it? Our Design Consultants can come to your home for free and help you figure it out!
Step 3: Pick a Fabric
If you’re like me and can’t make a decision to save your life, this will probably be the hardest part of the entire customization process. Do you want fabric or leather? What color would you like for the body of the sofa? Will it be a solid print or patterned? Even if you are like me, our Design Consultants are extremely patient and will guide you through the process, ensuring that you make the best choice for your lifestyle.
Don’t stress about creating perfectly matching living room pieces. Coordinating fabric can be just as important as your main fabric, except these pieces will make the room really come to life. Primp your pillows with a coordinating fabric or make an entire accent chair out of it! If you chose a solid print sofa, spring for a patterned fabric to add contrast to your room.
Step 5: Place Your Order!
Although 4-8 weeks for a custom piece may seem like a long time, if it took merely 1-2 weeks to make, you’d definitely notice the difference. It’d end up looking thrown together as though the person building it wasn’t even trying. When you’re customizing, you’re choosing the best aspects of furniture and putting them all into one piece—you can’t rush the process of creating perfection. Still a little hesitant about all of the decisions that go along with customizing? No worries! Our Design Consultants will guide you through the process from start to finish until you are 110% satisfied with your new pieces!
