“You can tell a lot about a person's character from his choice of sofa.” - Haruki Murakami
Most people sit on their sofa at least once a day. You relax on your sofa. Your children play games on your sofa. Your husband watches television on your sofa. A sofa is the staple of your living room and buying one is an important task! Express yourself and show your character by choosing a sofa that is perfect for you!
Don’t know what to do before you buy? We are here to help! Let’s explore the 5 questions to ask yourself before you buy your new sofa.
What type of sofa is right for my family and my lifestyle? When choosing a sofa for your main living room, you want to go with a more functional piece. Make sure you consider all aspects of the sofa before you decide. If you have a family member that is very tall, choose a sofa with deep seating. For someone with an injury (such as bad knees), shallow seating and a sofa with a tighter back will make it easier for them to get up.
What style speaks to me? If you are going to do a lot of relaxing on your sofa, go with a deep and cushioned sofa with lots of pillows. If you would like a more formal look, choose a tight back sofa that looks elegant! You must also decide whether or not you want a sofa, loveseat or sectional!
What size sofa fits my space? The size of your room is the main guide when you are choosing the size of your sofa. If you have a large room, go for a large sofa! Additionally, sectionals are great for large spaces because they provide a lot of seating options. If you have a smaller space, a smaller sofa will fit more proportionately in the room.
What fabric fits my lifestyle? Microfibers and leathers are great for sofas that will be used daily. If you prefer a high maintenance fabric such as silk, make sure you are using it on a sofa that will be used infrequently. Click here to learn more about fabrics and furnishings.
Do I want a pattern or colored sofa? Get creative with your fabric options! Neutral colored fabrics look great in any room and you can easily dress up and get creative with the pillows you choose. If you are obsessed with a certain fabric but know it won’t look good on your sofa, choose it for the pillows instead! If your sofa will be in a heavily used area of your home, patterned fabrics will work better to hide minor stains. Patterned fabrics and distressed leathers are best for a home with pets!
After answering the 5 questions above, you should be ready to purchase your new sofa! Do you still need guidance? Our design consultants are always nearby to help and answer any questions you have. You can also make an appointment with one of them at a time that is best for you!
