Don't Let the Holidays Sneak Up On You

Although Christmas is in December, you start shopping for presents in November, so why not start getting your living area ready for opening those presents even sooner? While it may still seem pretty far, now’s the perfect time to get your home in tip-top shape to impress your dreaded in-laws.

You’ve worked so hard to get their approval, but maintaining your bachelor pad décor probably won’t help them to see you as the respectable man who has married their precious little angel not too long ago. It’s time to start thinking about redesigning your entire home for the holidays! (Or at least the living room since that’s the only place they’ll see for the time being).

Pick a Color Scheme

SavannahImpress your in-laws with your style by going for something a little more out-of-the-box and straying from the ordinary brown and basic, leather couches. Start by considering your wall color—will you keep it the same or try a different color? Deciding on the color of your walls first will make the rest of the process so much simpler.

Pick a New Style

Tolucan2We already know that “bachelor pad décor” is out, so are you more modern, traditional, or contemporary? Even if you’re not sure, talking to a Design Consultant about what you do and don’t like will help you decipher it relatively quickly. They’ll show you some examples, and you’ll have your set style figured out in no time.

To Customize or Not to Customize?

Bentley-1This is the hardest question that most people regularly face while shopping for furniture. Is it worth customizing? Is it too expensive to customize? Do I even know what to customize? Check out all of your options before you make your decision. Look around the store and see if there is something you like on the floor. If not, ask about customization. Most of the pieces on the floor at Kensington are actually customizable, so you should never feel that “what you see is what you get.”

Order & Accessorize

DinelliOnce you order your new living room furniture, you may think you’re finally finished, but you can’t forget about accessorizing! Do your old end tables match your new couch? What about lamps? Accessorizing may be tough if you have a hard time envisioning the end result, but you can have our Design Consultants come to your house with the Accessory Van and personally help you decorate your home while in your home! How much easier could it get?

Don’t let Christmas creep up on you this year—start preparing now to impress any guests you may have over and take it easy during the holiday season for once. After all, the holidays should be the time where you relax and enjoy your family’s company (even if it is your in-laws).
