Coastal Styling Tips for Summer

With summer right around the corner, I bet you’re wondering how you can redecorate your home to look much more stylish whether it be a vacation home or a year-round coastal cottage. With these design tips, you’ll be sure to impress your guests with your newfound sense of style.

I’m going to design the perfect coastal home for you! So let’s break this up by room:

For the bedroom, my favorite line is by Cresent FineBedroom_Set_Cresent_Fine_Furniture_Corliss_Landing Furniture called Corliss Landing. Although these pieces don’t have to go in a coastal home (it meshes well with both modern and rustic themes, as well!), I think it gives off the perfect vibe for a summery, beachy bedroom. If you add a little bit of color through a light pastel comforter and pillow set, maybe in a mint color, you’ll have the perfect bedroom retreat! The light wood and comforter color will make you feel incredibly relaxed after a day at the beach or after a normal day at work.

The chest and nightstand don’t come as part of the bedroom set package, but are still available to be purchased separately! I definitely wouldn’t miss out on the added storage that the chest and matching nightstand provide. The decorative sea coral also adds a subtle beachy touch.

Living Room

Lochian_Sofa_Loveseat_Ashley_FurnitureIn the living room, you’ll probably want a little more bright summery colors so your entire home isn’t full of relaxing pastels. After all, the living room is where everyone goes to hang out together! The Lochian Sofa by Ashley Furniture is my favorite to recommend. The overall design of this living room is actually perfect. By having a light blue paint on the walls, the beige couch isn’t too drab. Then, when adding the pillows, it gives the room that extra pop of color it needs!

If you don’t think this is enough color for you, try adding in the Lochian Accent Chair by Ashley Furniture. It was made to have the same design as the accent pillows on the sofa, so you’ll know it’ll be a perfect match.

As for end tables, these Salyersville coffee and end tables also by Ashley Furniture will add a little bit of a contemporary/rustic look that will mesh really well with your beach home. And adding in a little dark wood will contrast nicely with your light sofa and wall color!

Lamp_Ashley_FurnitureAnd we couldn’t forget that beautiful lamp in the corner by the accent chair! We sell the same exact Ashley Furniture Lamp here at Kensington. It will definitely accentuate the modern coastal feel in your living room.

Kitchen/Dining Room

Depending on what the layout of your house is like, you may need both a kitchen and dining room table, but I’m choosing one that works as both! Brownstone_Dining_Room_Set_LegacyI love Legacy’s Brownstone Dining Room Set best as an eat-in kitchen table. Since you already have the pop of color in your living room, you definitely don’t need as much in the kitchen/dining area. The light wood creates a coastal feel while the cross-back chairs add a modern touch to the design. This table also comes with an extendable leaf so that it will fit all of your guests for your summer celebrations!

Kids’ Rooms

Whether you have children, grandchildren, or just want a playful guest room, the Cottage Retreat Bedroom Set by Ashley Furniture is just what you need. With the light, white finish and a pull-out trundle bed, it is not only easy on the eyes, but also incredibly functional! With the trundle, your children or grandchildren Cottage_Retreat_Bedroom_Set_Ashley_Furniturecan have sleepovers or you can simply have more guests stay over. Once again, if you choose a comforter with light pastel colors, this set would make for a perfect coastal kids’ (or guest!) bedroom.

The best part about these coastal pieces is that they don't only have to stick around for the summertime. Wouldn't you love if you came home from work every day and felt as if you were right at the beach? There are many more coastal pieces sold here at Kensington, but these were just some of my favorites!
